The course will focus on some of the main themes of the history of contemporary Europe: the modern state; the welfare state; micronationalisms; the fascisms; the relationship with the Balkans (South-East Europe) and the development of cities / metropolises.

The goals of the course are: to reflect on the current geo-political configuration of the European continent; on contemporary historical paths as synchronous and extended as possible to the East and West; develop a critical approach to European socio-political current affairs.
