The course provides a general view over the development of the public machineries from the early modern period to nowadays. The first part (from the XVIth century to the middle of XIXth)offers an outline of administrative activity during the State building process; the second one describes the transformations of public administrations in the last 150 years, with special attention to the Italian experience.
